“Mediators’ First Thursday Club”

Purpose/ Aim

Colin L. Carroll founded the “Mediators’ First Thursday Club” to raise awareness of the importance of Mediation as a cheaper and more cost effective alternative to litigation. 

It is hoped that the “Mediators’ First Thursday Club” will also provide an opportunity for Ireland’s  Top Mediators to meet up and have a lively discussion about the development of mediation in the marketplace.

When is the next Event?  – “First Thursday” of each Month

The “Mediators’ First Thursday Club” will meet on the “First Thursday” of each month in the Shelbourne Hotel at 7.30 p.m.

Media Coverage

There has been tremendous interest in the “Mediators’ First Thursday Club”.  Indeed, the Irish Times picked up on this initiative in its paper on Monday 18 January 2010 (the Club was referred to on the  “Law Matters” page).

Ireland’s Top Mediators (and those interested in Mediation and Conflict Resolution) are welcome to attend our monthly events.

How do I join the “Mediators’ First Thursday Club”?

There is no membership fee to join the Club. 

All you have to do is RSVP by emailing Colin L. Carroll (colin@colinlcarroll.ie) or phoning (045 848 444).   To guarantee your place, please RSVP as soon as possible.

There is a nominal charge each month to cover the cost of the room hire in the Shelbourne Hotel.

  • “Mediators’ First Thursday Club” – January 2010

The inaugural meeting of the ”Mediators’ First Thursday Club” was held on 14 January 2010 in the Constitution Suite of the Shelbourne Hotel.

Mr. Paul Randolph, a London based International Mediator, Barrister and Author of  “Mediation: A psychological insight into Conflict Resolution” made a presentation to the Group entitled “Why you need psychology or psychotherapy in Mediation”.

  • “Mediator’s First Thursday Club” – February  2010 

Dr. Simon Mill’s ( a medical doctor, barrister and mediator) spoke to the Group about “Mediation in a Healthcare Context”.

  •  “Mediator’s First Thursday Club” – March 2010

Ms. Monica Hanaway and Mr. Jamie Reed (English Mediators and Directors of Corporate Harmony) made a presentation to the Group entitled “Selling a Holistic Conflict Management Model to the Workplace”.

  • “Mediator’s First Thursday Club” – April 2010

Francis Martin O’Donnell (former UN official) spoke to the Group about the Resolution of International Conflicts and International Peacekeeping.

Two speakers are lined up for May’s event: Dr Carol Coulter (Irish Times) and Ms. Valerie Gaughran (Mediation Northside).

  • Dr. Carol Coulter will speak about Family Law and Mediation.
  • Ms. Valerie Gaughran will talk about Community Mediation.

Dr. David Bloomfield’s (Chief Executive of the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation) talk  was entitled “Dialogue with the Devil”.

Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy (founder of Focus Ireland) spoke to the Group about “Mindfulness in Daily Life”
